8th Grade

8th Graders and Parents,

First off, let me begin by encouraging you. You are about to take the leap into high school, and it is both an exciting and scary time in a student and parent's life. GEAR UP and Meigs County Schools sincerely hope that we can help by making the transition as easy as possible.

As an 8th grader, students will begin looking forward to life after high school. It is important to understand that the term college no longer just refers to a four-year institution. This term has expanded and should now bring about thoughts of technical, two-year, and four-year institutions.

So how do we get there? As an 8th grader, students will complete interest inventories, explore potential careers, go on college campus tours, and take a practice ACT for the first time. Hopefully, these steps will help students better understand themselves and what they want in their future.

Again, I wish students the very best in this transitional year and hope it is a wonderful experience!
