❤️🎀 Why Do We Celebrate Red Ribbon Week? 🎀❤️

During the last week in October, Meigs South Elementary will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week is a time for schools, families, and communities to come together to encourage children to make healthy, safe, and positive choices. While our students are still young, it is important to begin building the skills and confidence they need to make good decisions as they grow.

Throughout the week, we will focus on messages such as:

❤️ Taking care of our bodies and minds
❤️ Making healthy choices
❤️ Saying “no” to harmful substances
❤️ Surrounding ourselves with positive influences
❤️ Being confident in making good decisions
❤️ Choosing activities and friendships that help us grow

Our goal isn't to scare our students—it is to empower them. We want our students to understand that they have the ability to make healthy choices, ask for help when they need it, and make decisions that keep themselves and others safe.

We'll be celebrating these important messages throughout the week with fun activities and dress-up days! 🎉

Thank you, families, for partnering with us as we work together to help our students grow into healthy, confident, and responsible young people! ❤️

We are excited to recognize our Bus Riders of the Month! 🎉

Each month, bus drivers have the opportunity to nominate students who demonstrate what it means to be a respectful, responsible, and positive bus rider. These students help make riding the bus a safe and pleasant experience for everyone! 💙

We are so proud of the students pictured here for the great choices they are making each day. Thank you for showing respect, following bus expectations, being responsible, and setting a positive example for others. 👏

🚌✨ Way to go, Meigs South Bus Riders! Keep up the great work!

Hello, Meigs South!

This month, we have been learning about a very important word: KINDNESS.

Kindness means treating others with care, helping when we can, including others, using encouraging words, and looking for ways to make someone’s day a little better.

We talked about how our school is like one big donut! 🍩 Every kind thing we do is like adding another colorful sprinkle. One sprinkle might seem small, but when we all add our sprinkles together, we can make our whole school a brighter, happier place!

This month, we have been looking for students and staff who are showing kindness in big ways and little ways—because every act of kindness matters. The students and staff pictured were nominated by adults in the building for showing kindness at school this month.

Remember, you don’t have to do something huge to make a difference. A smile, holding a door, helping a friend, sharing, including someone, or simply saying something nice can be a sprinkle of kindness.

We are thankful for students and staff that keep making Meigs South a place where everyone feels welcomed, cared for, and valued.

Have a wonderful day, and donut forget to be kind! 💕

I enjoyed visiting Mrs. Martin's reading class today. The students have been reading about animal coverings which help them adapt to their surroundings. The students were making inferences about whether the animals could survive in a different habitat based on their adaptations. The students loved looking at pictures of animals in a different habitant and discussing their inferences.

🍎🥦 Learning Healthy Choices in PE! 🥛🍓 Today we focused on an important life skill—making healthy food choices and being confident in the cafeteria! 💚 Our students practiced looking at different foods and learning how to choose a balanced, healthy meal that gives their bodies the energy they need to learn, play, and grow. 💪 We also practiced carrying cafeteria trays safely, making sure to use both hands, walk carefully, and keep our food on our trays. We talked about being responsible and respectful while going through the lunch line and sitting in the cafeteria. These may seem like small skills, but they are important steps toward becoming healthy, confident, and independent students! ❤️
