Mrs. Brightman is one of our FABULOUS 1st grade teachers. She is high energy, highly engaging, and highly esteemed in our building! Today, she was caught teaching her kiddos about greater numbers using alligator "chomp" as the greater symbol. This hands on approach lead to mastery of the concept. Her students exceed all expectations, and she does too!! In her words: "Students in Mrs. Brightman’s first grade class are learning about comparing numbers. Today we used alligators to represent the greater than and less than symbols, and then fed them a delicious two digit number. Students used critical thinking and mental math skills to determine which number to feed the alligator. They worked in trios to take turns being the alligator and a number card holder. This was so much fun" #msetheplacetobe

Meigs South held the annual Math Bowl at school today! Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade entered into a contest to show off their mathematical ability and critical thinking skills. The top winners in 3rd grade were 1st McKenna Council, 2nd Brantlee Henley, 3rd Maizy Hughes. The top winners in 4th grade were 1st Anna Christoffel, 2nd Payton Gracey, 3rd Toby Adams. The top winners in 5th grader were 1stJackson Whitmyer, 2nd Maddux Miller, 3rd Atlas Shannon. These nine students then entered a contest against each other. After several rigorous, challenging rounds, we are beyond please to announce the over all school winners... 1st Place Maddux Miller 2nd Place Toby Adams 3rd Place Atlas Shannon We are so proud of our math whiz kiddos! Thursday, February 27, 2025 was a super special day at MSE. Students received two golden tickets to invite special guests in their life to our school. These tickets were given to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, fellow church members, and friends! With the golden ticket, these guests came into the school, visited their special students' classrooms, received a make and take activity, and ate a special snack with their students prepared by our very own MSE teachers! Teachers made cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and more. Thank you to Mrs. Leslie Martin, our RTI/Title I director for overseeing the program. This was one of the most special events we have ever hosted. We look forward to having a similar event in the future! #msetheplacetobe

Public Speaking Update!!!!! The top 10 students from 4th and 5th grade traveled to the district competition held in Decatur on Tuesday, January 25th. After a rigorous competition, we are ecstatic to announce our County Wide Winners! Meigs South students won 4 of the 5 top spots in 4th grade, and they swept the county by winning all 5 spots in 5th grade. 4th grade ~ 2nd place Maddie Couch, 3rd place Payton Gracey, 4th place Tripp Jackson, and 5th place Enoch Irwin 5th grade ~ 1st place Atlas Shannon, 2nd place, Wyatt Lee, 3rd place Jaxon Jones, 4th place Dawson Hurst, and 5th place Maddux Miller We are incredibly proud of our students and their hard work. "The more you read, the more things you'll know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go!" This statement is so true for MSE 1st grade, Ally Henley. Ally is a student in Mrs. Ratliff's class. Mrs. Ratliff's love for learning and teaching is so evident to her students. So much so, that Ally has earned 50 A. R. Points since Christmas!! This is an AMAZING accomplishment for a 1st grade student. We are so proud of Ally AND Mrs. Ratliff!! #msetheplacetobe

Meigs South is so very blessed to be a part of the Project Basic Program. This is an extra program for our K-2 population that focuses on building good character, becoming a role model student, and strategizing through all emotions. Our coordinator is Mrs. Beth Dodson. She is AWESOME!! As you can tell, our students are engaging well with her, learning a lot, and excited to participate in her activities.
