Exciting News for Meigs County Schools!
Meigs County Schools is proud to partner with Bradley County Schools and Polk County Schools as part of a $11.4 million, seven-year GEAR UP grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Through the POTENTIAL (Postsecondary Opportunities in Tennessee: Early eNgagement To Increase Access for alL) program, Meigs County Middle School and Meigs County High School students will have expanded opportunities for academic support, college and career exploration, ACT preparation, dual enrollment, work-based learning, financial literacy, mentoring, college visits, and more.
We are especially excited to bring GEAR UP back to Meigs County. We have been part of GEAR UP in the past and have seen firsthand the benefits it brings to our students, families, and schools. We are excited to bring those opportunities back and continue building relationships and experiences that help our students see what is possible and prepare for their futures.
We are grateful to our partners and everyone who helped make this investment in our students possible. The next seven years hold exciting opportunities for Meigs County students!

Our PreK team had a fantastic time at a PD session led by Eva Hampton, M.A., CCC-SLP, and Carla Monroe, CCC-SLP! Their workshop, "Don't Forget the Music! Get Them Talking When You Use It!", was packed with practical ways to unlock speech and language through song.
Key takeaways we're bringing to our classrooms:
• 🧠 Boosts Memory & Mood: Music sharpens focus, improves behavior, and builds classroom connection.
• 🗣️ Builds Clearer Speech: Rhymes and rhythms help kids practice vowels, speech sounds, and final consonants ("word tails").

On Patriot Day, Meigs County Schools honors the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001, and pays tribute to all who served and protected others. As we teach and inspire the next generation, we carry forward the spirit of unity, resilience, and service that defines our community and country.
