Ready to hit the water? 🚤 Before you fuel up the jet ski, make sure you’re legal!
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is hosting Boating Safety Classes and Exams at Meigs High School. If you were born after January 1, 1989, this is for you!
📅 Upcoming Dates
May 9th & May 23rd, June 13th & July 11th, August 1st & August 29th
⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (approx.)
📍 Location: Meigs High School Library (105 Able Ave, Decatur, TN)
📝 What You Need to Know
Who needs it? Any TN resident born after 1/1/1989 operating a vessel or PWC.
The "Ticket": You must purchase a Type 600 Boating Safety Exam Permit ($10) before arriving.
Where to buy: On the TWRAOntheGo app or anywhere hunting/fishing licenses are sold (Walmart, bait shops, etc.).
Important: Bring your phone (with the app) or your physical receipt to the class! This is your entry fee and your temporary permit once you pass.
⚠️ Pro-Tips for Registration
Age Limit: You must be at least 12 years old to take the exam.
Correct Info: If a parent is buying the permit for a student, make sure the permit is in the student's name and info, not the parent's!
Don’t Stress: If you don’t pass the first time, your receipt allows you to retake the exam until you do. Keep it safe!
Note: This certificate is not required if there is an adult on board (18+) who meets the legal requirements and can take immediate control of the vessel.

Meigs County Schools Launches K–12 Firearm Safety Program

Over the next few weeks, Meigs County Schools will provide age-appropriate firearm safety education to all K–12 students, as required by the new Tennessee law. These lessons, developed by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, will be taught with support from those agencies, our School Safety Program, and School Resource Officers. The goal is clear: promote awareness, responsible choices, and safe behaviors to protect our students and community.

Firearm-related injuries are now the leading cause of death among children and teens in the U.S., which makes prevention-focused education especially important. Parents and guardians can review the materials and find extra resources to reinforce these messages at home: https://link.edgepilot.com/s/0d4b8c46/gL9hyolWW06SuGfWqvq9lg?u=https://www.meigsgschool.net/page/firearm-safety-education

Have questions? Contact your child’s principal or Dr. Tad Roberts, School Safety Director, at (423) 334-5793 or tadroberts@meigsgschool.net.
