Meigs CTE recently attended the National ACTE Conference in Nashville, where the focus centered on national collaboration, networking, and innovation in Career and Technical Education. In addition to participating in industry-led sessions, the team had opportunities to meet Shark Tank participants and hear from keynote speakers Amanda Brinkman—who reminded us that “learning happens when we are doing”—and Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happyness.

Faculty and staff are currently representing Meigs County at the East Tennessee Federal Programs Conference! 🎓

They are diving into valuable sessions focused on strategies to better serve our students. A major highlight so far has been hearing from keynote speaker Gerry Brooks! His message on building a positive school culture really resonated with each of the participants.

They are soaking up the inspiration (and the laughs!) and look forward to bringing these great ideas back home!

We are fortunate to have partners who care deeply about our community. Thank you, Jim, for investing in our children and making this season a little brighter for our kids! 🌟

🌟 Meigs County PreK: Celebrating Curiosity & Critical Thinking! 🌟
We're proud of the engaging learning happening in our PreK classrooms! Here's a quick look at what we've been exploring this week:

🍃 Scientists in the Classroom
Our students are deep into seasonal science!
We've been studying leaves, learning that they are the food-makers for trees and observing the veins that carry water.
We felt the difference between smooth, soft leaves and dry, crunchy ones, which led to discussions about how things decompose in nature.

🌉 Engineers in Training
We used the story of the Gingerbread Boy to practice vital skills!
Students brainstormed how he could cross the water, settling on solutions like a boat or a bridge.
Working in teams, they designed and built their ideas! This hands-on problem-solving builds creativity, resilience, and critical thinking skills essential for success in school and life.

🏡 PreK Learning at Home: December Ideas!
Keep the learning going throughout the holidays with these simple, fun activities:
1. Read Daily: Cozy up and read a book together every day. Look for stories about winter, holidays, or different cultures.
2. Make a Pattern Chain: Use construction paper strips (red/green/white or any colors you have) to make a paper chain for decorating. Have your child follow a pattern (e.g., red, green, red, green) when linking the strips together. This helps develop early math skills in sequencing!
3. Kitchen Science: Let your child help measure ingredients for baking. This is a great, hands-on introduction to math concepts, such as volume and fractions.

We wish all our families a wonderful start to the holiday season!

Have you ever seen counting turn into engineering? 🌟 Our Meigs County preschoolers have! They're practicing counting and number recognition, experimenting with scales and balance, and bringing "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" to life with puppets and bridges. 🐐🌉 Play-based learning connects literacy, art, math, and engineering — and it’s amazing to watch these little problem-solvers in action.

What a great day in Pre-K! A big shout-out to Mrs. Joy and Mrs. Jan for making learning so much fun! ❤️
Mrs. Joy kicked things off by reading Goldilocks and the Three Pancakes 🥞🐻 to everyone.
Then, in small groups:
Mrs. Jan's group had a blast decorating pancakes! This was a super fun way to practice fine motor skills (getting ready for handwriting!) and early literacy with a "book walk." 📚
Mrs. Joy's group was busy teaching "Lila Letter" 🔤 all about the /m/ and /a/ sounds, matching sounds to letters.
From pancake decorating to letter sounds, our students are nailing their milestones by learning through play! Awesome job, everyone!
🏡 Continue the Learning at Home!
Practice Letter Sounds: Go on a sound hunt! "I see something that starts with the /m/ sound... milk!"
Find Fine Motor Fun: Have your child help with "pinching" (sprinkles, peeling a clementine) or zipping their own jacket.
Take a "Picture Walk": Before reading a book, look at the pictures together and ask, "What do you think is happening here?"
