A huge shoutout to Ms. Jan's small group for an amazing week of "building!" This unit on structures is about more than just blocks and materials; it's about building foundational skills in engineering, literacy, and critical thinking.
They started the week with the classic tale of "The Three Little Pigs." 🐷🐷🐷 After reading the story, the students discussed how the different houses were built. Then, they put their own engineering skills to the test, working together to design and build structures.
Ms. Jan played the part of the Big Bad Wolf 🐺, but she was no match for our Pre-K builders! She huffed and puffed, but their houses stood strong. This fun activity is a powerful way for students to learn about cause and effect, problem-solving, and basic engineering principles.

Go on a Compound Word Hunt: Look for compound words around your house or in the car. Point out words like toothbrush, bedroom, popcorn, sunglasses, or driveway. Ask your child if they can "break" the word into its two smaller parts.
The "Hometown" Huff & Puff Test: Challenge your child to build a tower using different materials (blocks, pillows, plastic cups, cardboard boxes). Have fun playing the "Big Bad Wolf" and see which structures are the strongest!
Talk Like an Engineer: When building, use new vocabulary! Ask questions like, "Do you think this will be a sturdy base?" or "What will support the roof?" This builds their vocabulary and scientific understanding.

The 5th Annual Meigs North PTO Walk-A-Thon is set for November11. Information and pledge forms went home with students last Friday. Please consider participating in this fundraiser for our school. There are lots of great prizes for kids to win! Thanks! JJ
Meigs North Walk A Thon will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Students will walk during their activity time. Forms will be sent home to sponsor students. This is a big fundraiser for our school. Students who participate will get to choose from an assortment of prizes.
We would like to remind everyone that our Veterans Day Program will be on Friday, November 7, 2025 @ 1:30. We would like to invite all veterans to attend. Our students in grades K-5 will be performing songs, poems, and giving demonstrations.
Our word for the month of November is gratitude. Gratitude means taking time to notice and appreciate the good things in our lives and showing thankfulness to others. It's about recognizing the people, moments, and little blessings that make each day special. We can show gratitude by saying "Thank You" when someone helps us, taking care of our materials and supplies, helping out without being asked, writing a kind note or complimenting someone, or telling people how much they mean to you.
Meigs North held it first Red Ribbon Week Parade on October 31, 2025. Local organizations participated to hand out candy and remind students to remain drug free. We want to thank Mrs. Rachael Lee for contacting agencies and setting up the event. The students were super excited.

We would like to thank everyone who came out for our Fall Festival. The cupcake walk was a huge success. Thank you to everyone that donated items for the walk. The winners of the coloring contest are Pre-K Eva B., Kindergarten Ace W., 1st Liam M., 2nd Anna G., 3rd Finley P., 4th Lydia C., 5th Tiffany S. Congratulations!

Mrs. Joy kicked things off by reading Goldilocks and the Three Pancakes 🥞🐻 to everyone.
Then, in small groups:
Mrs. Jan's group had a blast decorating pancakes! This was a super fun way to practice fine motor skills (getting ready for handwriting!) and early literacy with a "book walk." 📚
Mrs. Joy's group was busy teaching "Lila Letter" 🔤 all about the /m/ and /a/ sounds, matching sounds to letters.
From pancake decorating to letter sounds, our students are nailing their milestones by learning through play! Awesome job, everyone!

Practice Letter Sounds: Go on a sound hunt! "I see something that starts with the /m/ sound... milk!"
Find Fine Motor Fun: Have your child help with "pinching" (sprinkles, peeling a clementine) or zipping their own jacket.
Take a "Picture Walk": Before reading a book, look at the pictures together and ask, "What do you think is happening here?"
Join Meigs North for our annual Fall Festival on Thursday, October 23, from 5:00-7:00. Student admission is $5. There will be fun, games, prizes, candy, hayride, and haunted house. We will also have a silent auction, and concessions will be sold. Thanks. JJ
