We have many great students nominated for student of the month for the month of September! Each student was selected by their teacher(s) who believed that they continue to practice the Creed daily with whoever they interact with at school, whether that be classmates, teachers, and/ or Mr. Gene. Each student mentioned continues to be examples for their peers on how to live out the Meigs North Creed. Keep up the great work!! Congratulations to Timothy P., Mallory A. , Reya H., Madex V. As part of the requirements for the 3rd/4th grade promotion bill that was passed, these students had to participate in TN AllCorps tutoring for the entirety of their 4th grade year AND show adequate growth on the ELA portion of their 4th grade TCAP test. These students applied themselves and had consistent attendance and displayed great attitudes and work ethic. Teachers who worked with them said they were a delight to work with. And we are pleased to announce that based on their 23-24 TCAP results, they have, in fact, met their goal and have shown adequate growth as defined by the state. Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Mrs. Mia Bostic. Hi, I am Mia Bostic! I grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee and graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan University in 2022. I have lived here in Decatur with my husband, Zach, since we got married almost 4 years ago. I have spent my entire teaching career here at MNE, and this is my third year teaching 5th grade! I chose to be a teacher because I always loved school and learning. I also had several amazing teachers growing up that had a great impact on me, and I hope to be able to do the same for my students! When I am not teaching, I enjoy taking my Giant Schnauzer named Kane on walks, spending time with my family, and traveling with my husband. I truly love being a teacher and the opportunity it gives me to play a small role in the lives of my students!

The Meigs Decatur Public Library Bookmobile recently brought joy to the Meigs North PreK classes as they celebrated the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation’s 20th Birthday. Students enjoyed engaging stories, sang Happy Birthday to Booker the Owl, and even made special birthday cards for Booker. They also received a treat bag filled with goodies and a free book. It was a wonderful event, and we are truly thankful for the Friends of the Library for making it all possible! #justkeepreadjng #HBDBooker #GELF

Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Justin Jennings. My name is Justin Jennings, and I was born and raised in Meigs County. This is the start of my 23rd year in education. I started out teaching high school English for 16 years before coming to Meigs North to be a principal. I got into teaching because I felt called to do so. I enjoy being around students of all ages, and I try to be a positive influence on them. I especially like coaching and am currently helping with the middle school football and basketball programs as well as a travel baseball team. My wife Elizabeth and I have been married for 21 years and have 2 kids of our own that we are super proud of. I attend First Baptist Church in Decatur, and in my free time (if I ever get any), I like to play a little golf.

Third grade students at Meigs North have been busy studying the solar system. As part of their curriculum, students made models of the solar system. Students and teachers have enjoyed being able to view the projects.

Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Mrs. Susan Hughes. Hi! I’m Susan Hughes and I am starting year 17 in special ed. I absolutely love my job and watching the students I work with grow and make gains! I grew up in Kansas, but was actually born in Washington. I met my husband, Scott, a Meigs County graduate, in Kansas. We have been married 33 years and have 3 grown children, Zach, Ryan and Maegen. We also have one granddaughter, Sophia Rose, who is 8 years old. I am a HUGE sports fan (Rock Chalk Jayhawks! And Go Blue!!)! I LOVE college and pro football, college basketball and softball. In my spare time I love going to Dollywood with my family. I love being outside, even if it’s just sitting on my deck. I love working at MNE! We truly are a family and are there for each other and our students.

We will be offering nachos for our students in grades 3-5 this Thursday, September 12. The cost will be $2.00. Grades K-2 will be offered nachos at a different date.

Meigs North will hold its first Open House on Monday, September 9, 2024. You can schedule a time with your child's teacher from 4:00-6:30.

There will be a benefit craft fair in the Meigs North parking lot tomorrow, Saturday, September 7, from 9:00-4:00. Several vendors and some food trucks are scheduled to be here. Thank you. JJ

Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Durelle Wood. Durelle Wood is in his first year at Meigs North Elementary. He is originally from Cleveland, TN. Coach Wood currently resides in Chattanooga, TN with his wife Hayley. Hayley works for Western Governors University as a Strategic Partnerships Manager for the East Tennessee region. They will be celebrating their 10th year of marriage on March 29th 2025. They have two children , Chance and Blakely. Chance is a first grader at MNE, and Blakely attends Silverdale Baptist Academy in PreK3. Coach Wood obtained his bachelor's degree from Western Governors's University, and will be teaching in the transitional classroom at MNE. He is also a member of the football coaching staff working with wide receivers and defensive backs at Meigs Co. High School.

Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Mrs. Crystal Johnson. My name is Crystal Johnson. This is my 26th year of teaching, and I have spent the last 17 years teaching Kindergarten. Kindergarten is not for the faint of heart, but it definitely where my heart is! My husband, Shawn, and I have two boys. Caden is currently a student at TCAT in Athens, and Tanner is a Junior at Meigs County High School. We have two fur-babies: our dog, Bandit, and our cat, Lilly. In our free time, you will probably find us at a car show. While the boys are busy checking out all the cool cars, I can normally be found with my nose in a book. I love to read, and love that I can help introduce a love for reading in my students! This summer I and some of my teacher friends were given the amazing opportunity to meet Jack Hartmann! I was awe-struck!

Spotlight on teachers! Introducing Mrs. Kaley Carpenter. Hi! My name is Mrs. Kaley and I teach Kindergarten at Meigs North Elementary! This is my fifth year teaching and I know that I have found my place teaching the littles. I just love seeing their eyes light up when they learn something new! I am married to my husband Robert and we have a sweet little boy named Lucas! We enjoy being outdoors, riding around on back roads, and going to church together as a family. In my little free time (haha), I like to paint and shop online on Amazon!
